Scientist is a fitting title for Benjamin Franklin, a man who experimented with electricity, invented the lightning rod and established the field of meteorology. The reverse of this coin, in a tribute to Franklin's role as a patriot and statesman, features a recreation of his political cartoon, "Join, or Die." The cartoon was published in his Pennsylvania Gazette on May 9, 1754.
