After using it few only a few minutes I know already that this machine is going back. It is LOUD!!! The motor surges in speed without the operator changing foot position and the bobbin stitch is never straight. It is very difficult to thread as the presser foot seems to be positioned where it is difficult to get the thread to the needle. Also, it has a strange thread path that causes the needle to come out every time you start to sew unless you pull 8-10" of thread through.Worst purchase ever!!

I was not impressed with this machine. I have used a Singer for 45 years and this machine is just not up to Singer quality. I could not get the button hole stitch to work. The machine was sent with a bad needle that would not work. I will still buy a Singer machine because I like the quality of their products but will not recommend this machine to my friends.

I have an old Singer that finally gave up after trying to sew heavy-duty bags for a home-built Hovercraft for my hubby. This new one breezes through two or more layers of the tough fabric using heavy-duty fabric string without even a whimper. Thanks, also, to HSN for the prompt delivery and excellent price. The expected delivery date was May 4 and it got here on April 29. What a pleasant surprise to have a company take such good care of it's customers. Thanks again.

This singer is what I would classify as a good starter machine. If just going to sew a few straight stitches, mend or do a bit of basic home dec, this would be ok.I own several high-end machines including embroidery and purchased this machine for the commercial warranty(I do sewing and mending out of my home). The 500 has 5 basic stitches and manual button holer.Only draw back for the CG500 is that it doesn't have a freearm-so move up a model to the 550/590 for the freearm & add'l stitches.

I got this machine and was all excited until I tried sewing. The needle broke because instead of going into the hole it hit the plate and broke. I returned the machine and HSN sent me another one... When I opened the machine the same thing happened. I took it to a Singer store that was near to me and had them look at it and they said it was defective. Guess Singer is not as good as it used to be. Not going to get another Singer though.

I do packs and sacks: webbing, cordura nylon, heavy duty thread.
I also sew very lightweight sheer curtains.
This is the CG-500 (Commercial Grade 500),
They also make a CG-550 and a CG-590.
heavy fabrics need high top thread tension,
wound the thread around the bobbin tension disk to get it
A cross between a true commercial machine (often with only one stitch)
and consumer models that have way too many confusing features.
My sewing book said most should get a machine like this.

If you do a large volume of sewing, quilting or sew heavy fabrics, this machine is a must have. The motor is the strongest I have ever worked with. I have used this machine for over a year and LOVE it. I have even bought one to give to my mom who is a quilter. She loves hers too! YOU NEED THIS MACHINE!

I received this machine and was disappointed by the quality of it. First of all, a lot of the machine parts are plastic and not metal. Secondly, the machine did not work well at all. The string kept breaking constantly. I could not sew a straight stitch without the string getting tangled up. Apparently, Singer is not the company it used to be. (It's rumoured that they were bought over by Juki, and that this is their lower category brand) I returned it back immediately.

I received this machine damaged - the PLASTIC side panel does NOT fit into place, and the presser foot is unbelievably wobbly.
My expectations are that HSN should pay for the return (and original) shipping fees as they shipped a damaged item, but I do not have that confirmation yet.
I am really, really not impressed.

Heavy-Duty Commercial-Grade is a must.I have been sewing for a few years now off and on. My boyfriend bouth this sewing machine for me about a year ago and I have not stop sewing since. I have made blankets, curtains, pillows, belts and even a leather bench out of top grade leathers and other heavy materials. It has never failed me!!! At the time my boyfriend bought it from a different place. Had he known he could get it from HSN with all of the perks. All I can say is, I love mine.
