These jeans are right on trend. I did end up returning however, because they are cut a little too low for me. They are not super low (8-1/2" rise according to the charts for size 29), but they just seem to hit me in the wrong place. I sadly have a bit of extra weight around the middle and this accentuated it. If you don't have that little something extra in the middle, I would highly recommend.
