Smelled like rubber for the first day, after that it dissapeared. overall this product is great, not sure why all the bad reviews. Very soft, and works well on limiting on noise and vibration when using my new treadmill. What do you have to lose? Thats why I love HSN, not sure, try it, if its not your slice of cake, send it back!!

I have had the clear mat since November, 2006. It serves its intended use (under my elliptical machine): however, it did come with a very strong odor. The smell was so strong that it leached out into the hallway of my home. Since I exercise with my window open, I have been able to tolerate the smell. It is now January 30th, and the smell is not as strong, but still there.

I ordered this mat way in advance of receiving my treadmill because of the previous reviews, thinking I would just let it air out while I waited for my treadmill. To my surprise, it had no foul odor. It had a slight odor to it when I unwrapped it, but nothing terribly offensive. The order it had dissipated in a day or two.

After reading the other reviews that said the mat smelled bad, I decided to order mine well in advance of receiving my treadmill so I could let the mat air out. To my happy surprise, the mat didn''t smell at all--I would say order the mat with confidence. It is heavy, but not unwieldy when you unroll it. It straightens out pretty quickly. Now, I''m just waiting for my treadmill!!! Happy Holidays to all!

Bought this along with the Proform Treadmil to protect my new carpet. Well I can't stand the smell had to put it outside to air-out Maybe, Hopefully!! Otherwise, it was just what I wanted... Maybe the air will help. If not, back in the box this will go !! I work to hard to have my house smell good and this is REAL BAD....
Clear Mat has foul odor

I ordered the clear mat to go with the ProForm treadmill I also purchased. I had hoped that this product would protect my carpet and help to cushion the treadmill as I used it as promised. However, I never got any further than opening up the end of the box it came in. The odor was so bad, I simply sealed it back up and returned it. It's a shame since the idea behind the product is great. However, I would not have anything that smells so bad in my home.
I have a SCENTS you may be right about the smell..

I like my new mat, especially because it's the perfect size for my new treadmill, and I love that it's clear, rather than the black, however, the smell is strong. If anyone has some tips on how to get rid of the smell, I'd really appreciate it, otherwise, I just may have to return it for the black, even though I don't want the black. Any suggestions???

I received this product the last week of January '05 (it is now Feb. 18), and although the quality is EXCELLENT, there is a horrendous odor eminating from it. I washed it in hot water and detergent, then put it on my porch thinking it needed to off-gas, but in all those weeks the odor did not dissipate. It may be a one item manufacturing error, but it may not. Just consider this before you order it. HSN has been, as usual, very helpful and prompt in arranging its return. |
